I have completed a Bachelors degree of Applied Biology with a minor in Plant Breeding.
Here are some things I learned about…
After growing up with a fascination for evolution and everything natural, I decided I wanted to study Biology.
The early stages of my studies were mostly focussed on ecology. I gained an appreciation for nature and found interest in insects.

During the final stage of my bachelor, I did an internship in phytopathology after which I started a plant breeding minor. During this minor I learned about classic breeding and applications of modern techniques. I wrote a paper on the application of whole genome sequencing in breeding and my thesis will include the application of automated imaging.

After an internship in ecology, I realised that, though I found ecology fun, I loved learning about nature on a smaller scale. Genetics and plant physiology had been my favourite subjects and I had started my studies with a dream of plant breeding. When I was presented the choice to specialise, I decided to stick to my original intention and choose the plant specialisation and after that, a plant breeding minor.
